BARBARA GILLEY DAY
WHEREAS,
Barbara Gilley worked tirelessly for the disabled community in the
Commonwealth of Virginia, focusing her substantial knowledge and energy
on influencing public policy decisions; and
WHEREAS,
Barbara Gilley was committed to the support of accessible housing for
people with disabilities, no matter their financial situation; and
WHEREAS, she
advocated the disabled as a member of numerous boards and commissions,
including the Virginia Housing Study Commission Work Group on Fair
Housing Enforcement, the Vice President of Choice-Inc., and the
ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia, Inc.; and
WHEREAS,
Barbara was one of a small group of dedicated advocates that met with
me throughout my term in office to discuss issues of critical
importance to persons with disabilities; and
WHEREAS,
Barbara's passionate, principled advocacy provided a strong and
knowledgeable voice for the disabled community in Richmond; and
WHEREAS,
Barbara was a beloved friend, mother, and grandmother who touched
countless lives throughout her years of public service;
NOW, THEREFORE, I,
Mark R. Warner, do hereby recognize December 5, 2004, as BARBARA
GILLEY DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this
observance to the attention of all our citizens.
